Anxiety Busters
It is difficult to deal with Anxiety, when one is constantly worrying about what will happen. And, if you’re like a lot of people, you worry about losing your job in this economy, or you worry about how to pay the bills.
If you find yourself worrying about a lot of things, ask yourself these three questions:
1. What are the chances?
I heard from one friend that she survived 10 layoffs at her organization. She still struggles with worrying that she will lose her job. But, seriously, what are the chances? Management at her organization obviously value her talents and contributions, so, perhaps she can let go of worrying about it.
2. What’s the worst that could happen?
Sometimes, people “make mountains out of molehills” as my mother used to say. That is, they think up the worst possible outcome, and dwell on that. But, seriously, they could probably survive the worst thing, and could probably handle that situation as well. Though it might be painful, people can survive through many things.
3. If it does happen, what will I do?
This is part of the boy scout pledge: “Always be prepared.” If someone is worried that their house will catch on fire, do they have a plan? This is why schools do fire drills, earthquake drills and tornado drills: so that everyone will be prepared for the worst, and know what to do. If we have a disaster plan, we can let go of worrying about the disaster.
